Ralph N. Rogers, MD Scholarship
Ralph N. Rogers, MD was known for his passion for transport medicine, keeping lifelong friendships and leaving a legacy as a visionary leader. This scholarship, founded in his memory, is to encourage, mentor and secure the future for continued leaders in the Medical Transport Profession. Dr. Rogers was Chair of the CAMTS Board of Directors from 2000 – 2016
This scholarship will be awarded to an individual for leadership development, based on need. This scholarship is meant to encourage the growth of future leaders of the medical transport industry, who can make significant contributions and follow in the footsteps of our friend and pioneer in medical transport, Ralph N. Rogers, MD.
The Ralph N. Rogers Scholarship is managed by The Tim Hynes Foundation, a 501(c) (3) tax exempt organization.
The 2024 Ralph N. Rogers, MD Scholarship applications are open until January 15, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible as an awardee, the individual must meet the following specific criteria (The criteria will demonstrate an Awardee who is highly qualified and demonstrates the characteristics of a strong leader in the medical transport service)

Medical Transport Service Expertise:

One year of leadership in medical transport experience.

Employment with a medical transport service or ground critical care service, current accreditation by CAMTS is preferred.

Recent experience and currently involved in medical transport service activities.

Preferred experience in two (2) of the four (4) following areas of expertise:

Effective Communications and Interpersonal Skills:

The applicant must:
1. Submit a letter of interest with your application. Refer to guidelines below.
2. Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae with your application. If not currently employed by a medical transport service, the applicant must provide information on current involvement in the medical transport services.
3. Complete the application form along with your letter and resume/curriculum vitae here.
4. Two (2) Professional Recommendation Requests must be submitted to the CAMTS office. The applicant is responsible for getting the reference requests to the appropriate people. Click here to download blank recommendations forms
NOTE: Incomplete applications will not be accepted. No exceptions will be made. Please encourage the people submitting a recommendation for you to submit within the deadline. Carefully review the application and all supporting documentation to assure that eligibility criteria are met and are documented correctly and completely. You will receive a confirmation email shortly after your submission.
LETTER OF INTEREST GUIDELINES
Provide a letter of interest to the CAMTS Leadership Fund Selection Committee stating in 250 words or less (double-spaced and typed):
1. Why you want to be the Ralph N. Rogers, MD Leadership Fund Awardee?
2. What do you have to offer to the medical transport profession by becoming the awardee.
3. Why you should be chosen as the awardee of the Ralph N. Rogers, MD Leadership Fund?
4. Specifically how will the funds be used? What professional leadership course/education (MTLI) or Master’s Degree Program are you currently pursuing or plan to pursue? Are you currently accepted into the course/program?
5. Specifically how much funding are you requesting for this purpose?
Current Recipient
Our award recipient for 2024 is Dr. Nic Sparrow, MBBS, BSC, CCFP-EM.
Dr. Nicholas Sparrow received his medical training in London, England and qualified in 2001. He moved to Canada in 2008 where he worked in the lower mainland as a family and emergency physician for five years. He moved to Nelson with his family (wife Krista and 6 kids) in 2013 and works in the ER at Kootenay Lake Hospital. Approximately 15 years ago Dr. Sparrow started volunteering his free time responding to the highest priority 911 calls alongside the emergency services. He has responded to over 1000 emergency calls in the Province of B.C. In 2016 he founded Kootenay Emergency Response Physicians Association (KERPA) a charity providing EMS physician ground support. In 2021 KERPA became the first agency in Canada to be awarded Special Operations Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). Our goal is simple… to save lives, help the most critically ill and injured patients in our community – and support the emergency services.
